A dress for me.

Last night after the girls were in bed I made my self a dress.

I have never completed and worn a piece of clothing for myself so I had no expectations.

I chose a sheet I wasn't particularly attatched to. And then I did my usual trick of drawing the pattern on the sheet, cutting it out, sewing it together and binding it.

Well, for my first go I am happy.

It is a bit too tight across the chest and a bit too loose across the tummy but hey I'm used to making kids clothes and they don't have boobs or hips or tummies.

I will have another go today and make a pattern that has a bit more shape to it. I know I could buy a pattern, but I think I am too much of an impatient sewer. I take all the shortcuts and make it up as I go along.

In the meantime we have used up all our fast internet downloading Entourage episodes, so I might not have the patience to spend much time online for the next ten days. And when I say slow, I mean slow, our snow peas are growing faster than pages are loading.

I hope you have a great weekend. XX

  2. Great work, it looks fabulous. Not to mention fun & probably nice & light on these hot summer days.
Sewing for boobless/ hipless children is suddenly so much easier isn't it??
Enjoy Entourage, what an eye opener. Shame about all the swearing, we have to watch after hours. That Ari, OMG, my favourite is actually Mrs Ari who i don't think actually ever gets named. Enjoy, love Posie

  3. Awesome dress, it looks great!
Why not add a 2 quick darts at the front, it'll pull in the tummy section & add a bit of shape across the chest? Umm, I know I just said that, it sounds a simple thing to do, yet umm, I've never actually done that myself.......

  4. Your dress will be nice and cool with the space around the tummy. I think its ideal for our climate. Clever you - no pattern! I've Been sewing for centuries and still wouldn't dare.

  5. That is so lovely.
I used to sew in a past life, my mother was very patient & I got frustrated VERY quickly. I made basic skirts, shirred sundresses and a baby quilt cover. I would love to get back in to it.
You have inspried me - a SHEET! Pure Genius and adore the binding too!

  17. I am telling you, you are so talented to be able to make clothes without a pattern!!! My grandmother was a dressmaker, but I don't think I inherited those genes. I am dependent on patterns.
