Sewing dresses & losing wool.

I made another sheet dress last night.
I just love playing with all the different patterns and coloured sheets.
I added different coloured binding on this one too.

Here we have my stylist adding the final touches while I was photographing the back of the dress.

Of course she had to put her sheet dress on too.

Part of me in considering an Etsy shop at the moment. But the other part doesn't want the stress of working out postage and prices.

In other dress news, no sooner had I read M*'s 'why don't you dunk it in a pot of dye?' comment on my last post, than I had.

Please excuse the line at the bottom, that's the mark from the washing line where its been hanging in the rain since it came out of the dye pot.

I love how the sheet pattern came through the dye. I'll machine wash it today so hopefully it'll end up a bit more even.

I also plan to bind the lower hem as suggested by many of you and to add some pockets. Huge thanks to Vic for going above and beyond and sending me the coolest pocket tutorials to try.

After reading Jodie's post about Craft Hope the other day, I quickly set about to crochet up a bunny. I got this far but somewhere between our farm shop at the bottom of the hill and our house at the top of the hill, I lost a huge 200gram ball of beautiful BWM wool and my favourite, most used crochet hook.

I have searched our whole house, both cars and as much farm land as I can, but to no avail. I can only hope that some animal or bird is sleeping very comfortably out there and maybe using the hook as a poking tool(?).

I hope your Tuesday is fabulous! XX

  3. Your dress does look very nice with the color change. I love your little assistant too. Those sheet dresses are a wonderful idea. I am sure your ball of wool will pop up from wherever you left it, unless one of your girls is trying to crochet too! You didnt leave it under the big tree did you where you took those photos in the other post.

  4. The dye worked a treat - good idea, and makes it looks more less sheet, more chique! You should have a go on etsy - it's as easy pleasy as you want it to be. Nic

  10. dear Kate - there is so much to say as a result of this post! Hope you find the precious BWM cotton and hook, unscathed. I am envious of your extensive sheet collection and ability to whip up those sweet little dresses, not to mention the litle sweeetie modelling one! I love the dyed dress - you look amazing! 11. OH I love the dyed dress, it's amazing it just transforms to something quite different. It's stunning Kate. If you ever decided to open an Etsy store it would do very well I think.
I lose wool all the time, and hook and tapestry needles, and scissors and sunglasses. It makes me feel better to hear someone else doing it. Golden rule once you stop looking for it, and totally forget about, and/or buy another lot, it'll turn up. xo

  12. Hey Kate, loving those sheet dresses! Hope you find your lost wool & hook, how frustrating. I bet they turn up though. Jodie's doll that I had lost re appeared in the Big Laundry Cleanup of 2010! Yay! Great to chat today, as always. Had one more thought on the Handmade issue but will catch up with you, nothing urgent. Have a lovely day sweetie xo

  20. I love this whole project, its really "raw sewing" - draw it up, cut it out, sew it, fiddle with the front, chuck it in some dye, throw it on the line, leave it in the rain, consider some trims! Puts all of us control freak sewers to shame!

  22. Hey thanks for simplifying the join the dots technique... And the died dress came out pretty sexy! Nice job. I'm coming to Aus for a few weeks soon so I think I'll try one for my little taste of summer...

  23. What a bugger about the wool and hook, Kate. A few years back I lost one of a pair of my favourite Blundstone boots that I'd left on the back porch. I never found it. I think a Tasmanian Devil took it. I hope you have better luck with your wool and hook - which by the sound of it you love as much as I loved my lost boot. xxx

  25. Oh no, lost favourite tools & wool, bugger!! I thought the 'dunk it in dye' comment was going to be rude, but it was just a fabulous suggestion.
Check out those cute ringlets on your stylist!! Love Posie

  26. Etsy: you would only have to work out the postage once for the girls dresses - take it to the P.O all packaged up and get them to weigh it and then they can give you postage to say USA, UK and Australia. easy peasy. DO it!!!

  27. ohhhh i love those dresses! And i really like the way the dye transformed your dress too! Love the earthy color...i think you should definitely go for the Etsy shop. If i can do it, anybody can! hahaha

  32. The dye has worked a treat - I love that subtle print of the sheet showing through. What colour dye did you use? I've had a play with dye recently (black) and the final result was a nice soft charcoal.
Those sheet dresses are very sweet. I reckon there'd be plenty of little girls who would love to twirl about in one of those....

  35. I rarely create responses, however i did some searching and wound up here "Sewing dresses & losing wool.".
And I actually do have some questions for you if
it's allright. Is it just me or does it look like some of these responses appear like they are coming from brain dead folks? :-P And, if you are posting at additional places, I would like to keep up with everything new you have to post. Would you make a list of the complete urls of all your public sites like your Facebook page, twitter feed, or linkedin profile?
