The 2 Pennys.

So that day that I've been dreading, finally dawned this morning.

That day that I've been fearing and hoping would not come for a while yet, is right here and there's no denying it.

My kids do not want to model my home made clothes any longer. Gosh, who knows if they'll ever want to wear them again.

To get these two farmer girlies to try on my fresh off the sewing machine dresses for size and then stand still outside for a few minutes, took almost more convincing and grovelling than I could muster on a Saturday morning.

To be honest, I was a bit proud of myself for conquering my fear of knits and then creating something a bit girly out of a boring bit of charcoal fabric. I thought they'd be as excited as I was. But they weren't. Not remotely.

The greeny striped dress is Penny and the charcoal dress is Penny jazzed up a bit with a ruffle sewn down the front. I've altered the shape a bit to suit my girls too which is so easy to do with knits.

In the end there was a jelly snake bribe, a mad dash and scramble on some rocks, a few scratches and some tears and then quicker than quick we were back inside, the dresses were strewn, jeans and t'shirts were popped back on and they were happy again.

Looks like from now on it'll be lots of photos of dresses on hangers around Foxs Lane.

Looks like there'll be lots of sewing dresses with knits too. I'm a bit hooked.

I hope your weekend is fantabulous. xx

  1. Yay! Good on you Kate. Knits are very forgiving. You'll have to try undies now you've got the hang of stretch. I bet you'll be designing your own creations now you know how simple it really is! Try drawing around a Tshirt that fits the girls and playing around with the lines.

  3. The dresses look gorgeous as do the girls, even if they didn't want to model.

  4. I love charcoal and I love knits. And I agree- very forgiving!
Maybe they will be scrambling to be models again in a week...? They are very lovely models and a jelly snake is an impressive bribe!

  7. It's a sad day but it comes to us all. Mind you, they'll still brag about their brilliant Mamma and expect her to be able to pull all sorts of creative rabbits out of hats. At least they put on lovely smiles for the camera! Cherrie

  8. I remember when my 3 teenaged children loved to wear my handmade clothing...they haven't in a few years now and have complete styles all their own.
These dresses are gorgeous as are the models!! I have never sewn with knit before but may be game enough to give it a go after seeing how great these turned out :)
    Happy Easter

  9. Welcome to my photographic World of Pain. Even worse is that now my kids reckon they can Name Their Price. Pffft to that. Colin or a coat hanger serve me very well.

PS. Congratulatories on the sewing with stretchy stuff business...

  10. maybe it's just a phase? or you got them on a bad day.
YAY however for you mastering sewing with stretchy, and it is exciting, and what you did it was too .
    Happy easter special xo

  11. Oh I totally understand. Will is not willingly anymore! Thankfully Moo still happily models. Maybe Will is still annoyed with me for getting him to wear girl clothes? LOL

    Great work!

  12. What?!! Don't they know how lucky they are to have designer (well, sort of) clothes?
Their outfits look beautiful, by the way - I love the stripy dress.

  13. ahh yes, I totally understand the kids not posing dilemma and the use of jellybeans as an incentive.
they look wonderful in their new dresses and hopefully they will be re inspired again soon to model your gorgeous creations Kate.

hope you are doing well lovely girl, sending you lots of squishy hugs ♥

  15. I think that day happened at my house a few months ago now. Isabelle has to be in the right mood for me to model my handknits now. I will have to try and get my god-daughter to model for me now instead. The girls look very cute in their dresses, and you make it sound like it was easy to sew with!

You deserve a gold star for being so productive, I don't know how you do it. I'm hoping that your house is a pigsty!

The dresses look fab, might gave to order that pattern.

  22. Now isn't that a mischievous monkey grin from Miss Pepper, too cute! Your dresses are adorable, what a shame the girls are over modeling. On the plus side though they probably won't want to get involved in that industry and all the body image drama that goes with it :-) Fancy a little visitor to your blog?? My Lucy is planning her itinery...want to join in?? I will understand perfectly if you don't want to, Lucy may just be too much temptation for the girls ;-)

Hope you are having a lovely Easter holidays....it is going much too fast!!

I'm sure it's just today. They'll be back twirling & swirling in your dresses soon, no doubt.

    Happy Easter Kate!

  24. Oh Kate, how sad your girls no longer wish to model your beautiful clothes... maybe they will come around down the track, children tend to do that.
Gorgeous dresses... I particularly love the charcoal with the ruffle down the middle. That one is cute with a capital C!
    Have a lovely Easter :o)

Gorgeous ruffly dress on Miss P!!

  26. Love those dresses! And aren't knits fun to sew with and you don't have to hem anything if you can't be bothered (and can claim that the curly hem is intentional)!

And Happy Easter to all in Fox's Lane.
